The Esperanza Unida Construction Company

The Esperanza Unida Construction Company is new project and expansion of our organization's successful Construction & Apprenticeship Training and Job Placement Program. The fundamental goals of this program expansion are to build self-sufficiency into the program, to create jobs, and to build transitional work experience opportunities into the training business.

Via the Construction Company, Esperanza Unida has begun creating joint ventures and partnerships with other community based organizations to do general contracting projects, construction work, and rehabilitation of inner-city homes and businesses. The Company is beginning operation as a specialty contractor in general carpentry, with an initial focus on demolition, rehabilitation and remodeling.  Also targeted are general contracting projects that can be pre-manufactured in our new workshop and assembled on site.

Initial projects contracted by the Company have included remodeling and demolition projects for nonprofit organizations and companies throughout Milwaukee, along with construction of playground equipment for child care centers, porches, wheelchair ramps, and the installation of windows and doors.  The growth of the Company will focus on the gradual addition of specialties, e.g. masonry, siding, finish carpentry, flooring, landscaping.

The Company is targeting inner-city youth and adults for training and work experience opportunities and then assisting graduates in moving into the skilled trades.  As the workload permits, the Company will hire qualified trainees part-time to work for the Company while they are completing their training program. Trainees will then be placed in full time permanent employment. The goal in this project is to identify, recruit and train 30 students within a year’s time and place a minimum of 70% of these students in family-supporting jobs with benefits.
