The Need Demand for child care services in Milwaukee County far exceeds available providers. This shortage is notably true for infants and toddlers. Even though many families secure child care informally through relatives, neighbors, and other friends, the number of regulated child care slots in Milwaukee is too low to meet current needs. And with the Wisconsin Works welfare policy requiring parents to work, the number of children needing child care is increasing is increasing steadily. Our community, located on the near South Side of Milwaukee, is home to the city's largest Latino population, many of whom are recent immigrants. Esperanza Unida's community continues to have limited to access to quality, culturally and linguistically appropriate child care.
